RAD ION
Our friends in Germany have been busy! I recently had the pleasure of sitting in on a RAD ION planning meeting, albeit remotely. Big ideas and cool uses for ION are being discussed. Simply RAD ION is a combination of Rapid Application Development and Interface Object Notation. The team envisions a multi-layered approach to what I call rapid prototyping. Using this system you’ll be able to use an editor to produce ION which is then parsed and translated into a html/js prototype (possibly based on a framework like YUI).
This is cool stuff and along the lines one of our initial goals of using ION as part of the Living Design Document Concept: creating and retaining an operative image of product as it progresses through the design process. Tom Klingenberg create a good diagram of the envisioned architecture and Darren Cooper wrote a nice overview of the meeting on the Frankfurt PHP User Group site. Finally, here are some pictures of the last meeting. Even though it’s a bit ubiquitous now a days, it’s still a bit surreal to see my live chat on the screen in front of a room of people half way around the world.
RAD ION is an exciting concept and off shoot of our work on ION. I’m pleased to see other people take our idea and run with it. I also appreciate Darren’s and the team’s inclusiveness in the process to develop RAD ION. I imagine we should see some interesting things by the end of the summer.
