The Loop

I'm in. I'm registered. I'm going. I'm attending the
IDEA Conference at the Seattle Public Library, October 23-24, 2006.
The conference is sponsored by the IA Institute and has the goal of addressing the,
"issues of design for an always-on, always-connected world. Where "Cyberspace" is a meaningless term because the online and offline worlds cannot be made distinct. Where physical spaces are so complex that detailed wayfinding is necessary to navigate them. Where work processes have become so involved, and so digitized, that we need new processes to manage those processes."
I have been interested in blurring the lines of IA/ID beyond the digital interface, in order to design a more wholistic experience. After reading about the redesign of the
Carnegie Lisbrary System experience and being exposed to the exhibit design world, I started to think about a person's experience as they traverse varying mediums. This goes beyond the touchpoints of services, brands, and products (digital or not), to the experience of time and place; the experiences that encompass all of the interections a person has with the world around them.
Needless to say, I can't wait to October and I'll provide a full write up when I get back.
